VIM Rodrigo (ViewPoints, November 10) asks how man-made garments materialise on ghosts.

This is explainable if we accept the hypothesis that in the next world our minds will have the power to create spontaneously. A discarnate entity naturally envisages himself clothed. His subtle etheric body responds accordingly, for thought creates in the astral sphere.

Mr Rodrigo asks whether spirits invariably speak English. Certainly not, for there are many records of communications in different languages at direct voice seances which afford the most convincing evidence.

One of the greatest mediums of the 20th century was Mrs Etta Wriedt of the United States.

A British vice-admiral, W Usborne Moore, meticulous in his research, stated that she never went into trance but would join the other sitters in the conversations they had with the spirits.

If, however, a foreign language came through she would get out her knitting. She could only speak English.

Throughout history, psychic phenomena have occurred, confirming the age-old belief that we do survive death and the adventure of life continues beyond it.
