Sir – Access to public toilets is a basic human right, particularly in towns and cities. Payment for public toilets is surely already included in the taxes we already pay.

I would, however, be prepared to pay up to 50p to use a public toilet subject to the following strict conditions:

  • They are all available 24 hours
  • They are clean and fit for use at all times
  • They are accessible to all (so no turnstiles thank you).

If these conditions are not met, perhaps we, the paying customers, could arrange for all toilets in the council offices to be locked until we get what we have paid for.
