Police are appealing for witnesses after a house was left badly damaged following a collision.

A Mercedes tipper lorry collided with the front of the house in West Street, Buckingham, at 3.15pm yesterday after mounting the kerb to avoid a black pick-up style vehicle, possibly a Mitsubishi, which was travelling in the opposite direction at speed.

Police would like to trace the pick-up style vehicle, which did not stop at the scene of the collision and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The lorry remained embedded in the house until this afternoon due to concerns over the safety of the building. It was removed after a structural engineer gave the all-clear.

West Street has remained closed since the collision and is likely to remain so until tomorrow morning because of safety concerns.

The lorry driver, a 21-year-old man from Bulgaria, was arrested at the scene for having no insurance and was later released with a caution.

PC Liz Johnson said: “We are very keen to speak to anyone who saw the black pick-up style vehicle coming from the direction of Buckingham town centre, heading towards Brackley.

“Luckily no one was hurt in the collision, but it has caused severe damage to the house and widespread disruption to neighbouring businesses and residents.”

If anyone has information on this incident, please call PC Johnson via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police, or leave your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
