Sir – I am chairman of Witney U3A (University of the Third Age), which has more than 330 members, who come from Witney and surrounding villages.

We are an organisation dedicated to lifelong learning for people no longer in full-time employment and our members attempt to keep mentally and physically active by involving themselves in a variety of interest groups. We organise regular outings each year to places of interest and my members are very concerned about the parking situation in Witney, both for coaches and for those people wishing to leave their vehicles in car parks, whilst they are on the outing, which might be of nine hours’ duration.

At present, coaches come into Woodford Way car park and our members endeavour to park their cars in there.

However, on several occasions, there have not been any parking spaces available and the coach has to wait whilst the member drives around Witney looking for suitable parking.

This is the current situation. What will happen when Woodford Way car park closes and we have yet more housing (and more cars to cater for)?

What is ironic, is that if you travel to the top floors of the multi-storey car park, the middle floors are empty. Is there a case for a re-think on parking policy in Witney?

Where will coaches stop if Woodford Way car park is closed and will there be provision for long-term parking elsewhere for all those who require it on a daily basis?

Pam Jones (Mrs), Chairman, Witney U3A, Witney
