Sir – Last night, I stood outside the Holywell Music Room having a cigarette break during the concert interval.

I was passed by about 30 cyclists, 75 per cent of whom had no lights. And most were in dark clothing.

A careful motorist, I do not want to be responsible for inadvertently killing or injuring one of these people.

Could the police please start another crusade, and this time confiscate the cycles instead of issuing warnings or small fines?

I know that it is a small offence in the great scheme of things, but it can lead to ruined lives for both the injured and the driver involved in the injury.

By the way, I took my cigarette butt home, so the Thought Police do not need to pay me a visit.
