A WITNEY volunteering charity hailed by Prime Minister David Cameron as “the Big Society in action” has secured a £2,000 grant from West Oxfordshire District Council.
Volunteer Link-Up puts prospective volunteers in touch with groups that need help.
Manager Pat Chirgwin said the grant was tremendous news.
She said: “These days, with all the government cuts that are imminent, every penny counts.
“We provide a vital service for people in west Oxfordshire and without grants we would have problems.”
The grant will be used to help with the charity’s running costs.
On a visit to the charity last month, Witney MP Mr Cameron said: “They are an extra social service, but provided by volunteers, and I think they are a very good example of the Big Society in action.”
