AN RAF corporal has been convicted of dragging a teenage girl from a disco and raping her.

Scott Atkins attacked the 17-year-old at RAF Benson on January 28 after he had been drinking at the Dolphin pub in Wallingford.

The 28-year-old married father of three was a corporal in the Military Provost Guard Service.

Jurors at Oxford Crown Court yesterday convicted him of one count of rape by a majority of 10 to two.

Atkins had earlier admitted to the trial he had not told his wife about the proceedings.

Judge Gordon Risius remanded him in custody and declined Atkins’ request to have time to telephone his partner and explain.

The jury in the week-long trial heard Atkins grabbed the victim and forced her upstairs for sex.

The girl ran away and raised the alarm with friends, and Atkins was arrested early the next day.

He had consistently denied rape, saying the girl had consented to passionate kissing before they led each other upstairs to a corridor.

Atkins will be sentenced on November 22.
