I WRITE regarding the letter (October 13) from Peter Wilkinson, Chairman of Rose Hill Tenants and Residents Association.
I do not wish to answer his points regarding the new house building going on in Rose Hill, but I would like to question him on his comments about the proposed new pool in Blackbird Leys, which would replace both Temple Cowley and Blackbird Leys pools. His comment that “the Labour administration is hell bent on putting up a multi-million pound pool in Blackbird Leys” is a bit unfair.
Peter should know that it was the Liberal Democrats who proposed the new pool on the Leys to replace Temple Cowley back in 2006/7, not least because his wife is a Liberal Democrat councillor.
The Labour group which now controls the city council fully agreed with the financial findings of the Liberal group and carried on the task of working on this project to give Oxford a new pool, which the city will be proud of in years to come.
Peter’s letters, although they make good reading, are also used in a political way to undermine the good work the Labour group is doing to provide desperately needed new housing for the thousands of people on the council waiting list and to provide first class leisure facilities in the city.
