A VOLUNTEER scheme which helps bereaved families and witnesses at inquests is coming to Oxford.

The Coroners’ Courts Support Service (CCSS) is seeking volunteers.

It organises teams of trained volunteers in 15 courts in London and the Home Counties to offer emotional support and practical help.

Now it is being rolled out at Oxfordshire Coroners’ Court in New Road, Oxford.

CCSS director Beverley Radcliffe said inquests could be a bewildering and confusing experience.

She said: “People who find themselves attending an inquest often have no idea about what to expect and feel thrown into an alien environment.

“Our volunteers have to quickly assess their needs and respond appropriately.”
