CHARITY champion Ray Collins and his friends have redecorated three day centres in the Wantage area after raising thousands of pounds on an 80-mile walk.

Over the past two months, Mr Collins and 20 volunteers have toured centres for the elderly and disabled to give them a fresh lick of paint.

The painting spree came after Mr Collins, 41, raised £6,000 earlier this year by walking 80 miles around Wantage in 24 hours.

The centres tackled were The October Club in The Cloisters, Wantage, The Grove Day Centre in School Lane, and The Charlton Centre in Charlton Village Road.

He said: “What hit home to me is that there are so many elderly people on their own, and the fun and support they get from day centres is vital.”
