A DOZEN police officers broke down the door of an East Oxford flat yesterday in a dawn raid on a suspected drug user.

Police obtained a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act and raided the first floor flat behind Hamptons estate agent at The Plain roundabout.

Officers said they were acting on tip-offs from the local community. Police officers, plus neighbourhood Pcsos, arrived outside the property in two police vans and used a battering ram to break into the flat.

They found a small quantity of what police believe to be Class A drugs, and a 36-year-old man from St Clement’s Street was arrested.

Police said last night the man was released without further action. A woman in the house was not arrested.

Pc Paul Jones said: “We do not yet know what the substance we found is until it is tested.

“But tackling drugs is one of the priorities for us in East Oxford, and we will act on any intelligence we receive.”
