Police arrested seven people during a clampdown on drug dealers in Oxford city centre, called Operation Bumpkin.

Officers, including armed and mounted police, joined the operation last week.

Four were held for drugs offences and three were detained on warrants. A further six people were cautioned for possession of cannabis.

Sgt Sandra Terry, of St Aldate's Police Station, said: "We have been developing our intelligence on a number of high profile targets we believe to be involved in street dealing.

"Through the neighbourhood policing consultations held with city centre residents and businesses we also know that drug use, supply and paraphernalia are a serious concern and that people want us to act.

"The operation was about getting out on the streets in large numbers, some in plain clothes and others as a high visibility deterrent, to catch and dissuade criminals involved in drug dealing in the city centre.

"With seven arrests and six cautions I hope this shows those involved in drug use and supply that police are aware of such activity."

Carl Suter, 26, of Bartlemas Road, Oxford, was charged with supply of heroin, Clifton Bullock, 53, of Bartlemas Road, Oxford, was charged with failing to provide a drug test sample and possession of cannabis and Graham George, 40, of no fixed abode was charged with possessing heroin.

All three were bailed to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court next Friday.
