A woman had to be freed from her car by firefighters after trapping her leg in the door while vacuuming it.

The woman had been cleaning the inside of the saloon car when it began to roll forward down her driveway in Beechcroft Road, Oxford.

Before she was able to pull the handbrake up, the driver's side of the car struck the house, causing the door to clamp her leg between it and the car body.

Two fire engines and an ambulance were called and hydraulic separating equipment had to be used to push the side of the car 10 inches away from the wall so the woman could be freed.

The woman, in her 40s, was finally released at 2.40pm on Friday, about 35 minutes after she became stuck and 10 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Rewley Road firefighter Julian Green said the incident was a reminder that people should make sure they put the handbrake fully on when they parked.

He said: "The way the car ended up, it put quite a lot of pressure on her right leg. The clear message is if you are working on a car, make sure the handbrake is secured.

Mr Green added: "I must admit I've never seen this before. I'm not sure how badly she injured her leg, she may have broken it, but hopefully the leg was just bruised."
