Oxford girl Lisa Armstrong finally got her own Pop Idol when she walked down the aisle with TV star Ant McPartlin at the weekend.

Lisa, 29, who grew up in Cowley, met Ant half of TV comedy duo Ant and Dec 11 years ago when she was an up-and-coming singer with the band Deuce.

On Saturday the couple finally married in a £200,000 wedding in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, with Ant's TV partner Declan Donnelly as best man.

Ant proposed to Lisa, a former Peers School pupil who is now a make-up artist, last April. Guests for the ceremony at St Nicholas Church included This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, hairdresser Nicky Clarke, and TV presenter Sally Meen.

Lisa was driven to the church in a 1930s Rolls Royce and looked stunning in a white dress with long train.

Her mother Linda arrived in a white Bentley, and her builder father Derek proudly walked her into the church.

Simon Hargreaves, a record firm boss and close friend of Ant, read Marriage Is The Greatest Happiness Of All, and hymns included Amazing Grace, and Lord of the Dance before Ant and Lisa left to Mendelssohn's Wedding March.

Following the service, the Rev Alan Dibden said: "There was a lot of hearty singing, laughter and applause.

"Ant and Lisa are very committed to each other. She didn't say she would obey him but I've not seen a bride this century that has."

The reception was at nearby Cliveden, once a stately home, and now a top hotel.

After the wedding meal, guests were given "fun money" to gamble in the hotel's casino, and a £5,000 fireworks display rounded off celebrations.

It was some way from her childhood in Watlington Close, Cowley, but Lisa had always dreamed of being famous.

She is no stranger to Oxford Mail readers. Aged four, she hit the headlines for getting a white sash, the first step in Kung Fu, after only three months.

At 10 she scooped 25 trophies at a disco dancing competition and at 14 had won a place at the Brits School of Performing Arts in Croydon, south London.

It was there she met her future Deuce bandmate Kelly O'Keefe.

Kelly, now a dance teacher, said: "We went by coach from Oxford every morning. We had to get up at 5am and wouldn't get home until 8pm. It was very hard and I couldn't stick it but Lisa did. She is very driven.

"She was very talented and we won competitions all over England. Lisa was also fortunate to have very supportive parents."

Linda Baynham, who taught Lisa at Peers School, remembered her as "bubbly, enthusiastic and hard-working".

By 18 she had rubbed shoulders with Take That, East 17 and Shirley Bassey.

She then joined Deuce, scoring hits with I Need You, which made number 10, Call It Love and On The Bible.

In 1996 Deuce supported Boyzone at Oxford's Apollo Theatre and Lisa spoke warmly of playing to her home crowd.

Deuce broke up in the mid-90s and Lisa now works as a £250-a-day make-up artist.

It was during her two years with the group that Lisa met Ant and Dec in 1995 at a magazine party in Newcastle.

Lisa spoke about her fianc before the wedding and said: "I've always felt relaxed with him, and when we met there was something about his hair and eyes that made me feel all gooey."
