A CORPORAL at an RAF base dragged a teenage girl from a disco and raped her, a court heard.

The trial of Scott Atkins, 28, who denies rape, began at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

The married serviceman was based at RAF Benson as a corporal in the Military Provost Guard Service when the alleged incident took place on January 28 this year.

Gareth Branston, prosecuting, said Atkins had been drinking at the Dolphin pub in Wallingford before meeting the 17-year-old girl at a disco.

He said: “The defendant, who is married and significantly older, decided to force himself on her.

“He grabbed her outside the toilets, dragged her upstairs and there, despite her protestations, he undressed her and began to rape her.

“Eventually, he stopped and allowed her to leave.

“She immediately went to find a friend of hers and was taken to another close friend, and the police were very quickly involved.”

Mr Branston said Atkins’s wife had returned to the family home in Bournemouth shortly before the incident because she did not want to bring up children in a military base.

He added: “In police interview the defendant agreed the two of them had sexual intercourse although not very successfully. He said it was all with the active consent and involvement of the complainant.”

The trial continues.
