TWO men armed themselves with knives and forced their way into a house at the end of a non-stop drinking session.

Sean Wisdom and Lee Atkinson had “drunk consistently for two days without sleep” before barging into the property in Sherwood Avenue, Abingdon.

The pair were sentenced at Oxford Crown Court after Wisdom, 33, had earlier admitted affray and possessing a bladed article.

Atkinson, 28, was convicted by a jury of affray after admitting having a “bladed article”.

The court heard the two men went to the house in the early hours of December 12 and Atkinson threatened occupants Conrad Earl and Graham Jenkins before Wisdom pulled out his knife.

The confrontation was defused before any violence took place, prosecutor Matthew Walsh said.

Nigel Daly, defending Wisdom, of Reade Avenue, Abingdon, said: “This was an episode of drunken idiocy rather than any deliberate attempt to carry out, or threaten anyone with, violence.”

Clare Fraser, defending Atkinson, of Ock Mill Close, Abingdon, said her client had a “very deep and entrenched problem” with alcohol and the pair had been drinking “consistently for two days without any sleep”.

Wisdom was given a six-month jail term, suspended for a year, and told to do 100 hours’ unpaid work and abide by a three-month weekend curfew.

Atkinson — who has 21 previous convictions for 30 offences, including ABH, battery, and unlawful wounding — was jailed for nine months on Friday.
