Boulders and 'sleeping policemen' could be installed at a Didcot car park to combat 'boy racers' speeding around in their cars.

Residents close to the Ladygrove Park car park have complained to police and Didcot Town Council about late night disturbances.

Drivers have been using the car park, which is unlocked at night, to perform doughnuts and burn-outs spraying dust and gravel across the adjoining play area and into neighbouring gardens.

Loud music coming from the cars has also disturbed local residents.

Nick Hadjirallis, who lives in Longford Way, has called for Didcot Town Council, which owns the car park, to take action.

He said: "It's mainly confined to the summer months, in the good weather you get young people driving cars going in and basically doing doughnuts in the gravel.

"It's quite noisy and stirs up a lot of dust."

"Right by the car park is a children's playground and they have to drive straight past that."

Didcot Town Council is now looking at installing measures to stop cars getting on to the park such as putting boulders, bollards or sleeping policemen down as barriers.

Pete Read, who chairs the council's environment committee, said: "Cars are being skidded on the loose surface of the car park.

"We are looking towards putting in boulders or bollards to reduce speed, that is still being costed."

CCTV was installed in Didcot in November last year. A week before its official switch on, a man was caught on camera acting suspiciously outside the town's fire station in Broadway.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and later pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

Earlier this year, police vowed to crack down on escalating antisocial behaviour at Didcot Parkway railway station.

Transport officers said the station had been increasingly blighted by gangs of teenagers intimidating passengers and staff over the past four months.

In February two police officers were attacked at the station when arresting a youth for public order offences.

A police spokesman urged residents to report any disturbances at the car park on 08458 505505 or confidential hotline Crimestopers on 0800 555111.
