A FIVE-year-old boy is taking part in a sponsored bike ride around central London for the second year running – but this time he wants to lap it twice!

Last year Owen Scott surprised his family when he rode 17 miles around the capital just three months after getting rid of his stabilisers.

This year dad Ryan, his mum Becky and sister Faye, two, who will be in a trailer attached to Mr Scott’s bike, will also take part.

The event is part of the London Sky Ride, designed take in some of the capital’s most famous landmarks, including Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and Tower Bridge.

Ambulance technician Mr Scott, 32, of Coltsfoot Leyes, in Bicester, said: “People were knocked out by what Owen did last year “He is adamant he’s going to do two laps this year. We’re not going to push him, we’ll see on the day.

“It’s quite leisurely and we won’t be going at any significant pace, but Owen seems to think he’ll get more money for the children he’s collecting for if he can do a longer route.”

Owen has also got a small team of sponsors – Cotswold Outdoors, in Bicester Avenue, have offered to supply energy snacks and drinks, and BeeLine Bicycles have also offered to support him.

Although the actual route is 10 miles, the family will also have to cycle seven miles to the start line at Buckingham Palace, where they will join about 65,000 other cyclists.

Last year Owen, a pupil at Bure Park Primary School, raised about £500 for Save the Children, and plans to support the charity again this year.

At the moment cycle crazy Owen and Mr Scott ride their bikes between 10 and 20 miles each week around Bicester, and he also rides to and from school.
