The first students in Oxfordshire to graduate from Oxford University’s Latin Teaching Scheme received their results yesterday.
Twenty pupils from eight secondary schools spent two hours every Saturday morning for the past two years being taught the classical language from scratch at the university.
Among the results were three A*, three As, three Bs, five Cs, four Ds and a U.
Classics outreach officer Cressida Ryan said: “Most of them had never come across Latin before, but many are now planning to continue it at A level. We hope more students from all backgrounds will apply to study it.”
Pupils from Marlborough, Coopers, Bicester Community College, Banbury, Wood Green, Chipping Norton, St Birinus and Cherwell schools took part.
