A NATIONWIDE computer problem with Barclays Bank caused chaos for thousands of Oxfordshire shoppers on Saturday.

The problem, which affected cash machines and some payments at shops, is believed to have been caused by an electrical blackout shortly after 2pm.

It is believed the problems were associated specifically with LINK ATMs, the system which allows customers to use other bank’s machines.

A spokesman for the bank said as soon as it became aware of the problem it quickly resolved it and the problem was fixed by early evening.
