THE NHS often gets a kicking for the way it sometimes treats its clients.

However, the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford has cracked the problem.

I spent a night at the JR last week and from the time that the receptionist at the medical assessment unit welcomed me to when the ward nurse on 7a confirmed that I could leave, I was treated with courtesy, kindness and consideration.

Every one of the staff that I met was friendly and professional and made my brief stay very stress free.

Particularly impressive was the Ward 7a night nurse who, while obviously extremely busy when he admitted me at about 10.30 pm, took time to welcome me and offer refreshment.

Sir Jonathan Michael, the hospital trust’s chief executive, is to be congratulated.
