Sir – In the centre of town, there are now two sets of redundant traffic lights — one is at the end of the Broad by the Kings Arms and Clarendon building at the junction of Parks Road and Holywell.

The other is outside Debenhams at the junction of George Street, Cornmarket and the Broad. These crossings are mainly used by cyclists (and buses in the case of George Street/Cornmarket).

It is now well-known that traffic lights cause additional pollution from accelerating vehicles.

It is much safer if vehicles use their discretion and give way to other vehicles where necessary.

With our councils so strapped for cash, perhaps they could save themselves some money and clear the air by removing them.
