The southern Rhône is the homeland of the grenache grape variety, which, when blended with grapes such as syrah, mourvèdre and cinsault produces wonderfully rich, meaty and spicy reds which are ideal for this time of the year. Try this delicious selection which makes perfect drinking with barbecued food or grills.

The Summer Rhône case costs £97 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.

Domaine de Gravennes Côtes du Rhône 2008: Made predominately from grenache, this wine has soft warm fruit with touches of herbs, white pepper spice and red berry fruit flavours.

Bouches du Rhône 2009: This blend of typical southern French varietals is supple and fresh with red berry fruit and hints of delicious spice.

Domaine de l’Amandine Seguret 2005: This Côtes du Rhône Villages has deep dark rich fruit with flavours of roasted meat, herbs and plums — delicious!

Beaumes de Venise, Domaine de Beaumalric 2005: Originally better known for its sweet wine, Beaumes de Venise has always produced good reds which have become better recognised in recent years. This one has delicious deep soft fruit and a lovely touch of white pepper spice.
