A STUDENT took a deep breath, smiled and jumped head first from 300ft to raise cash for her grandmother’s nursing home.

Despite being scared of heights, Rebekah McGeough, 18, completed a bungee jump at Windsor Bray Lake and raised £1,100 to pay for residents’ activities at Manor House Nursing Home, in Merton, near Bicester.

Earlier this week, staff and residents laid on a tea party to thank the teenager and hear first hand about the jump.

Miss McGeough, of Rectory Crescent, Middle Barton, near Bicester, said: “I just wanted to do something that would help pay for them to do more.”

The Oxford and Cherwell Valley College sports and exercise science student admitted she was scared of heights and only relaxed when her feet were firmly back on the ground.

She added: “I got up there and my granny and family were there watching so I thought ‘I have just got to do it for her’. I had a huge smile on my face and just leapt.

“You don’t feel safe until you get back on to the ground.”

Miss McGeough said her grandmother Agnes McGeo-ugh, 73, formerly of Chats-worth Drive, Banbury, was very proud of her.

Wendy Putt, head of activities at the home, said: “All we ever hear these days are tales of hoodies and broken Britain but here we see the real side of the wonderful UK.

“We’d sincerely like to thank Rebekah for her courage and selflessness in donating both her time and health to such a wonderful cause.

“It is inspiring for everybody that this level of enthusiasm exists in our upcoming generations.

“The money that Rebekah has raised will provide enjoyment and quality of life much more than can be realised. It will have a huge impact on every resident.”
