A dispute between an Oxfordshire brewery and the world’s football governing body Fifa has been resolved.

Fifa instructed its legal team to investigate Hook Norton Brewery’s limited edition Striker summer ale, because the label mentioned the ‘Fifa World Cup 2010’.

The organisation trademarked phrases containing World Cup, Fifa and South Africa 2010.

But James Clarke, managing director of Hook Norton, said the problem had been resolved.

He said: “I’d decided to withdraw the beer, but Fifa didn’t want this, so we have sorted the matter out.

“I was particularly pleased that a Fifa trade mark attorney rang me from South Africa, and we discussed and resolved it.”
