A TEENAGER has become the first person to be banned from all pubs and off-licences in Wantage and Grove.

Tomas Bennett, 18, of Mandarin Place, Grove, was given the two-year ban at Didcot Magistrates’ Court after police made an application for the order based on 10 incidents of drunken antisocial behaviour.

The scaffolder becomes the first person in the Vale of White Horse to be handed the order, under Section 3 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006.

Police told magistrates Bennett had received two fixed-penalty notices in April for drink-related incidents in Wantage and officers had a list of eight similar incidents.

Bennett was also banned from causing harassment, alarm or distress while under the influence of alcohol.

He volunteered to pay £250 to complete a course which will halve his ban to one year.

Speaking outside the court, Pc Jim Abram said officers had received a number of complaints about Bennett’s behaviour.

Bennett had been repeatedly warned about his behaviour, he added.

He said: “Generally speaking, he goes into town, drinks too much and starts shouting and swearing at people.”

“It’s the second order of this kind that Thames Valley Police have sought but the first in the Vale of White Horse.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be very useful as our concerns are for the safety of the public.”

In December, Ryan Kane, of West Bar Street, Banbury, became the first person in England and Wales to be given an alcohol banning order after he repeatedly harassed and intimidated pub staff in the town.
