Oxfordshire County Council has announced today it will review its £500m capital programme as it fears its funding will be cut.

County Hall will review major projects to improve schools, highways and youth provision so it is ready to cut some schemes if and when it is faced with substantial cuts in Government funding.

Projects that now hang in the balance include the extension to Thornhill park-and-ride, the redevelopment of Frideswide Square and extensions to several schools, youth centres and libraries.

County council leader Keith Mitchell said: "It is very likely that a large part of cuts in Government funding will come in the form of withdrawal of grants to pay for capital building work.”
