It’s been 25 years since Antipodean rockers Crowded House were formed and nearly five since they last visited the UK. Back in Oxford on Sunday, they have a brand new album, Intriguer, due out in July and are set for a nine-date UK tour. Most famous for their lilting anthems Weather With You and Don’t Dream It’s Over, the band has built a career by creating an array of sun-soaked, gently affecting tracks with choruses that naturally lend themselves both to being hummed by the postman and sung at the top of 10,000 lungs.

Created from the ashes of alt rock group Split Enz, Crowded House were initially a trio, consisting of front man, Neil Finn, bassist, Nick Seymour, and drummer, Paul Hester. They recorded and released their first album in 1986 and would go on to release four more, up until their split in 1993. The line-up expanded and contracted a good deal during that time, with the band spending time as a five- and four-piece, including Finn’s younger brother Tim at various points.

The band reformed in 2006 after Neill Finn asked Seymour to contribute to his new solo album. After recording for a few weeks, the pair agreed it would be more suitable for a new Crowded House record, so they invited Hart back into the fold and added a new drummer, former Beck sticksman, Matt Sherrod. A full- length tour followed and the band has been back together ever since. Since the re-formation their live shows have been tremendously well-received, by both fans and critics, meaning those lucky enough to snag a ticket for their show at the New Theatre have a great evening to look forward to.

Tickets are £35 and can be bought from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and the New Theatre box office. Intriguers is released on July 13 via ATO Records
