Iain Pears, a former art historian who saw his first crime novel, An Instance of the Fingerpost, become a bestseller, was once a financial journalist with Reuters.
He uses his experience to great effect in his latest novel, Stone’s Fall, now in paperback (Vintage, £12.99). It is an epic tale of sex, power, business and finance, spanning the 19th and early 20th centuries, Venice, Paris and London.
