Pythius, a border collie, is co-writing a series of dog walks and pub guides with his owner Helen Peacocke, food writer for The Oxford Times.

Their latest book Paws For History (Wychwood Press, £9.99) explores walks with history, from Flora Thompson country around the Butcher’s Arms, Fringford, to the battlefield history surrounding the Maharajah’s Well in Stoke Row, near Henley. Helen has extended her geographical reach as far as Chedworth and Ampney Crucis in Gloucestershire, but there is still plenty of room for Oxfordshire pubs.

Like her first book, Paws Under the Table, the new book gives a description of the walk and the pub from the point of view of both owner and dog, but with the addition of a brief description of anything of historical interest.
