Sir – I was interested to read the piece about cyclists being warned not to cycle in Sheep Street, Bicester. PC Entwistle said: “We are fed up with people cycling through Sheep Street who constantly say they don’t understand the rules and issued a threat that fixed penalties would be applied for offenders. I was recently walking along Sheep Street myself late one weekday afternoon when I was passed by a PC and what look liked a Community Support Officer riding their bicycles. Does this mean they are not subject to the “no cycling on Sheep Street” rule (in which case, why is this?), or perhaps they didn’t actually understand the rules themselves (in which case it raises the question as to who would issue the fixed penalty!) Our PCs and their support staff perform great work for our community, but I suggest they should lead by example on this particular issue.
