VILLAGERS staged a protest in 1988 outside their village hall, where developers had put on display their plans for the new town of Stone Bassett on their doorsteps, with 6,000 homes and 15,000 people. The proposal was later rejected.
Maurice Clark is seen in the second picture in 1960 fashioning yet another horse-shoe into shape – he had been the village blacksmith since 1911.
The third picture, taken in 1970, shows eager buyers being served by Mrs I Gibbs at a stall at the annual village school sale. Most of the toys, books, comics, groceries, fruit, vegetables and clothes were snapped up within an hour.
