Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Oxford where the victim was threatened with a meat clever.

At about 6pm on Friday, a 45-year-old woman was walking in an alley that connects Sorrel Road with Little Bury in Blackbird Leys, when was approached by an unknown man.

The man has demanded that she hand over her bag, and when she refused he has threatened her with a meat clever.

Passers-by disturbed the robbery and the man ran away.

He is described as white, aged between 18 and 20, with a slim build. He was wearing a hooded top.

Det Con Ben Yeats said: “Thankfully the woman was unhurt in the incident, though she was left shaken by what happened.

“The neighbourhood team are aware of what has happened and patrols will be stepped up in the area to offer reassurance to the local community.

“I would like to urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or with information, to contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Yeats via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
