Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Headington.

At about 6pm on Saturday an 18-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were walking along London Road with a baby in a pram when they became involved in an altercation.

During the altercation, the woman was pushed to the ground by the man and assaulted by the man and the pram was knocked over.

A passer-by intervened and stopped the assault and officers were called.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed to reappear at St Aldates police station on June 14.

PC Matt Sulley said: “Thankfully the baby was unharmed by what happened, and the woman escaped serious injury.

“This incident happened at a very busy time and there would have been a lot of people walking or driving along the London Road who would have seen what happened.

“I would appeal to these people to come forward and speak to us about what they saw, so that we can ascertain exactly what happened.”
