DOZENS of bikers welcomed back a saddle-weary group of enthusiasts following their three-day, 2,500-mile trek around Britain.
For organiser Phil Harpley it was a bittersweet experience as a road accident before the event prevented him from taking part.
The 47-year-old, from Eynsham, was set to join seven colleagues from Cowley’s Harley-Davidson headquarters visiting Britain’s most northern, southern, eastern and western points over three days in aid of Help for Heroes. But the former RAF chef broke his legs in a collision with a car on the A40 just 16 days before the group was due to set off.
Bikers such as Peter Davies, pictured, cheered the riders back into the county yesterday, and Mr Harpley said: “It was absolutely bittersweet, but to see everyone turn out for them was a bit emotional.”
He said the money was still being counted but was expected to be “in the thousands”.
