BATMAN, Harry Hill and the 118 men were among the characters lining up to take part in a fun run in aid of an Oxford charity which helps young people with special needs.

It was the first Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (Keen) fun run to be held at University Parks on Sunday.

About 30 young people aged between four and 25 and their families did laps of a 400-metre track to raise funds for the charity. Billy Howson, main picture, dressed as the ‘118’ character.

Keen provides sporting and recreational activities for young people with learning and physical disabilities and is run by students from Oxford and Oxford Brookes universities.

Many of the runners – and a few in wheelchairs – came in fancy dress, below, to add to the atmosphere.

It is hoped about £1,000 will have been raised for the cause.

Co-ordinator Kate Sankey said: “It went brilliantly, we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

“The idea was to get round the track as many times as possible and a couple of our members actually made it round 20 times which, was pretty impressive.

“The emphasis was more on the fun and taking part rather than setting out to win.”

She said it was hoped the fun run would now become an annual event.

Each of the participants received a certificate for their achievements.
