Different generations setting up home together may be the answer to soaring property prices and elderly relatives needing care.

One property developer believes he has come up with a package that offers the benefits of multi-generational living without loss of privacy.

Nigel Morrison converted The Barns, at Little Tingewick, near Bicester, from a mix of small farm buildings and The Wing from a former Queen Anne country house. The Stable Cottage is a separate annexe but part of the same complex.

The Barns provides 4,300 sq ft living space, including five bedrooms and Stable Cottage has a sun/sitting room, two bedrooms and a kitchen/dining area.

Next door is The Wing with 2,500 sq ft of space including 40ft-living and dining room and four bedrooms.

The three properties are set in 13 acres of pasture land. The Barns and Stable Cottage are on the market for a guide price of £1.275m and The Wing for £645,000.

Mr Morrison explained: “We are now in the midst of a new social crisis, that of caring for our elderly and this is causing huge debate.

“One solution becoming popular in the USA and practised widely by Asian communities is multi-generational living. However, young people want their independence. Their parents, having thought the kids had flown the nest, are not always keen to have them back leaving laundry all over the floor.

“The grandparents still regard themselves as young and although it’s lovely having the young around, some degree of peace is required.

“The right house can resolve these conflicts and The Barns and The Wing at Little Tingewick present an ideal solution.”
