MORE than 300 motorists were caught speeding during a week-long crackdown.
The checks took place as part of a European-wide campaign of enforcement and education on the dangers of speeding.
The Oxfordshire checks, where 315 drivers were caught travelling over the limit, were carried out by road safety officer Pc Mark Pilling, working alongside officers from Abingdon and Bicester. On Monday, April 26, 27 drivers were caught on the A44 at Yarnton and 30 at Langford Lane, Kidlington. The following day, 68 were caught in Abingdon Road, Didcot, and on the A417 at Rowstock and Harwell.
On the Wednesday, at Buckland Road, Bampton, and Burford Road, Witney, 70 drivers were stopped, and another 60 were caught speeding in Stratford Road, Wroxton, and Banbury Road, Bicester last Thursday.
On the final day, in Reading Road, Wallingford, and on the A415 Abingdon Road, Culham, 58 drivers were seen ignoring the limit.
Pc Pilling said: βIt is concerning that a large number of drivers continue to ignore road safety messages and believe it is acceptable to exceed the speed limit.β
