Police caught more than 300 motorists speeding during a week of enforcement in Oxfordshire.

The checks took place last week as part of a European-wide campaign of enforcement and education as to the dangers of speeding.

The Oxfordshire checks were carried out by Road Safety Constable Mark Pilling, working alongside Roads Policing officers from Abingdon and Bicester traffic bases.

Monday, April 26: A44 Yarnton - 8am to 10am- 27 speeding offences

Langford Lane, Kidlington - 11am to 1pm - 30 speeding offences

Tuesday

Abingdon Road, Didcot - 8am to 10am - 40 speeding offences

A417 Harwell - 11am to midday - 8 speeding offences

A417 Rowstock - 12.30pm to 2pm - 20 speeding offences

Wednesday

Buckland Road, Bampton - 8am to 10am - 28 speeding offences

Burford Road, Witney - 11am to 2pm- 42 speeding offences

Thursday

Stratford Road, Wroxton - 8am to 10am- 28 speeding offences

Banbury Road, Bicester - 11.30am to 2pm- 32 speeding offences

Friday

Reading Road (Winterbrook), Wallingford - 8am to 10am- 30 speeding offences

A415 Abingdon Road, Culham - 11am to 1pm - 28 speeding offences

This gives a total of 315 speed offences detected and processed.

PC Pilling said: β€œIt is concerning that a large number of drivers continue to ignore road safety messages and believe it is acceptable to exceed the speed limit.

β€œA great number of these checks took place in residential and built-up areas, some with schools, but some continue to put themselves and other road users at significant risk of death or serious injury.”
