THIRTY schoolchildren from Wallingford got their first taste of golf after they wrote to a local club to ask to have a go.
The group of eight- and nine-year-old pupils at Fir Tree Junior School, in Radnor Road, enjoyed an hour’s tuition from the professionals at the Springs Golf Club in nearby North Stoke. Friends Megan Giles and Katie Morris wrote to the club asking to try the sport as part of their health and fitness studies.
Parent Teacher Association treasurer and golf club member Nancy Morris said: “It was a fantastic day – the children had a wonderful time. They progressed really well from not having been anywhere near a golf course to getting used to teeing up and giving the ball a good old whack.
“The golf course has never seen so many children arrive at one time. You could hear them laughing and enjoying themselves – it was lovely having them.”
