CHILDREN dodged rain and hail but still enjoyed a fun-packed fair to celebrate the start of May.
Almost 1,000 people turned out for the May Day Fair at Carterton Recreation Ground and Brownes Hall yesterday.
Highlights included a fairground, a dog show by Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, a bouncy castle, crafts and stalls and displays of old vehicles including fire engines and vintage cars.
The event raised almost £5,000 for Save the Children.
Graham Evans, of the Carterton and Witney branch of the charity, which organised the event, said: “It was a wonderful effort. It was super, people always enjoy the May Day fair.
"A lot of people can’t afford to go away, so stay at home and it’s good to have something in Carterton that they can do. We hold the event to raise funds but it’s also something for local people to go to on the Bank Holiday.”
