THE army of village shopkeepers were urged in 1986 to band together to form the Oxfordshire Village Shopkeeper Association, to give them a stronger voice. Among those who signed up were Diane Kennedy, left, and Hilary Walbank, who ran the village shop at Chesterton.

When almost half the school football team went down with mumps and flu in 1984, headmaster Andy Reading called in two girls, Candice Heisey and Helen Marchetti, as replacements, third picture. They played a blinder and helped their team beat Caversfield Primary School 5-1.
