MORRIS dancers led 100 schoolchildren carrying garlands through the streets of Wheatley during the village’s May celebrations in 1979.
Villagers watched as the pupils, carrying seasonal garlands, made their way to the maypole.
There, they danced and sang an old Wheatley song, which one of the older villagers had remembered from the past.
The garland procession had been revived by villagers in 1976 – the first time it had been held since about 1850.
