Students at Oxford Brookes University are anxiously waiting to find out if their degree results will be published in the next few days.

The university has had to delay publication of some results because of the recent strike action by lecturers in a national dispute over pay.

Many students were disappointed on results day Monday, June 12 to discover they would have to wait another two weeks for the moment of truth.

Brookes has set itself a new target for next Monday, June 26, for all results to be published.

During the strike action, managers threatened to dock the pay of staff taking part in the strike, organised by members of the University and College Union who were seeking a 23 per cent rise.

Although some lecturers remain bitter towards senior managers, they agreed to do all they could to process the marks quickly once the national strike action was called off.

But Bethan Goves, 22, of Crown Street, Oxford, who is still waiting for the result of her communications, media and culture degree result, is unimpressed with Brookes' handling of the affair.

She travelled to Oxford from her parents' home in Wales to celebrate on results day with university friends only to discover she would have to wait another two weeks.

She said: "Some students have all or some of their results, some like me have none. Considering I finished earlier than other students, not having to sit exams, I do feel more could have been done to ensure receiving my results today.

"Worse still, we were not informed that some, and not all modules, would be published. I hope the next deadline of June 26 doesn't get any later."

Oxford Brookes spokesman Rebecca Baxter said: "Oxford Brookes operates a semester system and holds its examinations before most other universities.

"The industrial action undertaken by the academic trade unions has resulted in some marks being missing from some student profiles.

"The university has decided not to make awards where module marks are missing, in order to protect academic standards and ensure that students are not disadvantaged.

"We are convening examination committees now to confirm students awards, and we will write to students when we have done this by June 26, before most other universities release their results. The university regrets that it has been unable to process all results."
