Livingstone Close in Yarnton has staked a claim to be among the most patriotic streets in the country.

Not content with flying a few St George's flags as a show of strength ahead of the football World Cup, the eight-house close has been decked with 100m of Coronation-style bunting and flags have been draped from every lamp-post and house.

And in true Coronation fashion, the residents have vowed to host a World Cup street party if David Beckham's team win the tournament, which starts in Germany on Friday.

Richard Moss, 38, who organised the patriotic display, said: "Could we be the most patriotic close in England?

"We're certainly doing our best, and are all right behind the boys.

"We thought we would really go to town this year and put on a special show.

"The kids love it every house has got a St George's flag.

"Brazil are the team to beat, but England are a big, strong team, so with a bit of luck we will be knocking on the door.

"And if we win, we'll definitely have a street party."

The tournament kicks off on Friday afternoon when Germany, the hosts, play Costa Rica in Munich. England begin their World Cup campaign on Saturday, when they take on the South American outsiders Paraguay.

They then play Trinidad & Tobago and Sven Goran Eriksson's native Sweden.

If all goes well, they will then progress to the knockout stages of the tournament.
