As the World Cup kick-off approaches fast, the footie-mad Matthews' family have transformed their semi-detached house into a flag-tastic tribute to the England team.

Huge St George flags adorn the front and even the roof of their house in Grebe Close, Abingdon, ready for England's first game, against Paraquay.

Miniature flags light up at night, covering the car port and football fever has gone to their heads literally with the children sporting flags shaved into the back of their hair.

Dad Shane Matthews, 33, said: "We decorated the house for Euro 2004, but wanted to do it even bigger and better for the World Cup.

"We're football-mad and want to do all we can to support the England team."

Posing with their six children in England shirts, of course and 'Rooney', their pet Alsatian Mr Matthews and his wife Sonia, 31, said the house was attracting a lot of attention.

He said: "People stand and point and can't believe it. We've even had people pulling into the close in their cars to take pictures."

Mr Matthews said his neighbours had got into the World Cup spirit, too.

He said: "They love it. During Euro 2004, our neighbour joined in, but he's selling his house at the moment and didn't think it was a good idea to have flags all over it when people came to view it."

Mrs Matthews said: "I love football too, even though I think Shane has gone a bit over the top this year.

"But our twins Kaydon and Freya weren't born when the last World Cup was on, so they are especially excited about it.

"We'll all be gathered around the television for the matches, cheering on England. It will be great."

The only sadness marring the Matthews' World Cup, will be that their son Arron is no longer there to celebrate with them.

The 13-year-old suffered from cerebral palsy and died in 2004, aged just 13.

Mr Matthews said: "Arron loved football, but we have been up to his grave at Spring Road cemetery and placed a flag there. We know he'll be with us, celebrating and cheering on England."
