Police stopped hundreds of motorists in Deddington yesterday in a bid to find out how a young doctor died.

Drivers heading north and south on the A4260 were asked if they were on the road a week earlier when Margaret Davidson was killed.

Her Citroen car was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Nova, on the brow of a hill a few hundred yards south of Deddington.

Dr Davidson was driving towards Oxford, and the Nova was travelling in the opposite direction at about 8.30am.

Dr Davidson, 26, had recently started working at Banbury's Horton Hospital after studying at Oxford University.

Her parents live in Hamilton, Scotland. Senior investigating officer Sgt Peter Jell said: "I have spoken to Dr Davidson's family and they are devastated. It makes me determined to discover how the crash happened so that I can give them the answers they require. By carrying out this road check we will be speaking to drivers who travel the route regularly, and we hope to jog their memories. They may have seen something they didn't realise was important at the time."

Police handed out more than 600 leaflets.

Anyone with information should call Sgt Jell or PC Neale Simpson on 08458 505505, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

The 18-year-old driver of the Nova was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and bailed until July 3.
