In past years when we had proper traffic wardens and an event was taking place, they would be present to advise drivers where they could and could not park.
How different with today's parking regime.
I drove past the Kassam Stadium during the last game of the season against Orient at 3.15pm, only to see the Control Plus parking wardens arriving in their people carriers to place parking tickets on cars that were parked on the grass verges at least one mile from the ground.
These were not motorists who did not want to use the car parks, but motorists that had no other option as all car parks were full.
Contrast this with the situation in Cowley Road.
For a very long time, obstructions have been placed in the parking bays outside The Zodiac nightclub in the morning to reserve two or three parking spaces for the bus that brings bands to the club.
They park there for hours in a 30-minute parking zone while Control Plus wardens pass by oblivious to the fact.
I am aware that parking has become a problem for all of us, but let's have some fairness.
