Sir, I write in response to Poor folk suffer to keep Ross in clover Gray Matter (April 28) to reassure readers that TV Licensing recognises that some people do struggle to pay for the licence fee, which is why we offer a number of easy ways to pay to help spread the cost across the year. These range from Direct Debit, now used by over 12 million customers, to Cash Easy Entry, a scheme designed for those on income-related state benefits, whereby payments can be made in weekly, or fortnightly, cash instalments.

To assist those on this scheme, we have also introduced an SMS text reminder service which is used by over 300,000 people. The recent introduction of a savings card, which will replace TV licence savings stamps, also allows licence fee payers to save towards the cost of their licence in convenient flexible instalments.

TV Licensing also works closely with community groups, financial advice organisations and outreach programmes to ensure that information on the payment schemes and concessions is fully explained to individuals who might struggle to pay for a TV licence.

If any of your readers would like further information on any of the concessions or payment schemes available, they can contact TV Licensing on 0870 241 5590, or visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk Jessica Ray,TV Licensing, London
