Earlier Chris Babbs (62) and Dave Ward (49) had taken Vale to an imposing 280-6, despite Glen Dickinson's 5-86.

John Rolfe (68) top-scored in Ridge's 177-8 as James Claason took 4-75.
Both sides could scent victory when Oxford were 165-7 with ten balls remaining when heavy rain brought an early close.
